London location 70,000 to 75,000 basic plus benefits Hybrid Working Progression OpportunitiesKey skills required for this roleJob descriptionOur client, a rapidly growing consultancy based in London, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer - Electrification & Systems to join their team. Specialising in delivering high-quality engineering solutions across the rail sector, they have recently secured major projects in Control Period 7 (CP7) and anticipate significant workloads over the next five years, particularly in the Midlands.Key Responsibilities:Lead and oversee the design of substations, switching structures, construction compounds, and lineside cable routes/structures within rail electrification projectsManage technical delivery and ensure compliance with relevant railway and electrification standards, including NR/L2/ELP/27237 and NR/L2/ELP/27245Work closely with clients, contractors, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure successful project execution, meeting project goals and timelinesProvide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovationEnsure quality assurance and risk management are integrated into the project lifecycle, meeting safety, regulatory, and environmental standardsAct as the technical point of contact for clients and stakeholders, delivering technical presentations and reportsReview and approve technical documents, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specificationsContribute to bids and proposals with technical insights to help secure new workJob Requirements:Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalentExtensive experience in railway electrification and systems, with expertise in designing substations, switching structures, construction compounds, and lineside cable routes/structuresProven experience in major rail projects within the UK, ideally with exposure to CP5, CP6, and CP7 frameworksStrong knowledge of Network Rail standards, specifications, and procedures related to electrification and power systemsExperience managing technical teams and leading engineering design on complex railway infrastructure projectsIdeal previous CRE (Contractors Responsible Engineer) experienceExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholdersStrong problem-solving skills and the ability to make informed decisions under pressureWillingness to travel to project sites across the Midlands as requiredBenefits:Opportunity to work on high-profile rail electrification projects over the next five yearsA dynamic, growing consultancy with a strong pipeline of workSupportive and collaborative working environment, with opportunities for professional development and career progressionCompetitive salary package with excellent benefitsIf you are a dedicated and experienced engineer looking to shape the future of railway electrification, we would love to hear from you.
