Job Title: Lead Missile Mechanical Architect

Salary: Circa £60,000 (depending on experience)

Location: Stevenage or Bristol (Relocation package available)


Dynamic (hybrid) working: Typically 3 days per week on-site as per workload classification.

Security Clearance: British Citizen or Dual UK National with British citizenship required.

The Opportunity:

As a Mechanical Architect, you will play a pivotal role in all phases of missile development, from early feasibility studies to full production and in-service support. This is a great opportunity to lead the management of missile and subsystem requirements to achieve key performance goals, ensuring the overall missile layout and architecture meet cost and time constraints.

You will be responsible for leading design justification aspects, managing verification evidence to support missile certification, and ensuring functional and mechanical requirements are applied to sub-assemblies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the overall product structure, mechanical interfaces, and architecture
  • Serve as the focal point for all missile mechanical architecture issues
  • Conduct architectural trades with relevant partners
  • Ensure the implementation of generic policies such as modularity, re-use, and design for assembly
  • Perform technology maturity assessments and design complexity evaluations
  • Lead the relationship with Product Design and oversee Phase Gate reviews
  • Provide technical management of suppliers, ensuring on-time, on-cost delivery
  • Manage assigned budgets and drive dedication to cost-effective delivery
  • Provide both technical and managerial leadership for the engineering team


What We're Looking for from You:

  • Degree-educated with significant industrial experience in electro-mechanical and mechanical design
  • Proven experience in developing proving logic and leading compliance evidence generation
  • Strong drive for on-time, on-cost, and on-quality project delivery
  • Proven track record in leading and fostering collaborative teams
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders effectively
  • Experience working in an international environment, with sensitivity to cultural differences
  • Familiarity with broader engineering fields, including Materials, Tolerancing, Configuration Control, Vibration, Shock, Fatigue, Six Sigma, Lean Design, Systems Engineering V-model, and DFMEA
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
