Mechanical Design Engineer
Contract Length: 6 Months
Location: Didcot OX11 (3 days on-site, no flexibility)
Pay Rate: 39.00 Umbrella p/h
Job Description
Join the Design Division of the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source, using Solid Edge CAD to design components and assemblies for large-scale scientific instruments. You will develop designs from concept to detailed manufacturing drawings and perform basic stress and lifting calculations.
You will be an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer within designing bespoke, precision equipment, and developing designs from inceptions to fully detailed manufacturing drawings.
Essentials
- Experience in mechanical assembly/component design from concept to reality
- Comfortable performing basic and stress and lifting calculations to accompany designs.
- Proficient in Solid Edge (or equivalent) 3D CAD
- Competent in producing detail drawings to BS 8888
- Strong understanding of GD&T for precision machined components
Desirables
- Knowledge of industrial standards and regulations
- Experience with stress and lifting calculations
- Background in multi-disciplinary teamwork
- Practical experience in manufacturing and assembly

- Good communication skills
- Proactive, adaptable, and able to work under pressure
- Strong planning and organizational abilities
Health and Safety
- Mandatory safety training in place due to radiation site.
