Principal Geotechnical Engineer

The Role:

We are looking for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to support a busy civil and structural engineering team. You ll be involved in delivering geotechnical expertise across various UK-wide projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a driven professional to lead, mentor, and foster a positive and successful team environment.

Responsibilities:

• Take charge of geotechnical projects, collaborating with civil and structural teams
• Serve as the company s representative in Design Team Meetings, offering expert advice
• Supervise, review, and guide junior staff members in geotechnical design and analysis
• Prepare project costings and quotations for geotechnical services
• Design foundations (both ULS and SLS), as well as soil retaining structures and ground reinforcements
• Conduct ground improvement assessments, earthwork designs, and slope/settlement analysis
• Use specialized geotechnical software to deliver precise design solutions.
• Development of GIRs/ GDRs and GFRs
• Ensure strong commercial and contractual awareness to maintain project efficiency

Requirements:

• Degree in Geotechnical engineering or similar relevant qualification
• 7-10 years+ of post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering
• Proven ability to lead projects and act as a trusted point of contact in client settings
• Experience in overseeing and reviewing the work of less experienced colleagues
• Competence in foundation design, ground improvements, and earthworks assessments
• Ability to produce high-quality technical reports and presentations
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software for designing and assessing settlements, slopes, and retaining structures
• Strong business and contractual understanding
