An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Structural Engineer to join a well-established office based in Poole, Dorset. This role involves working across various sectors, including educational, residential, and commercial projects, from initial concept to detailed design and construction monitoring. The projects are predominantly located throughout the south of England and London. Summary Job Description: A Structural Engineer is sought to join the existing team, capable of working independently while also supervising and supporting junior members of the design team. This is a full-time, permanent role. The key skills required are outlined below, but applications from candidates with varying levels of experience are welcomed. If all qualifications aren't met but you still feel suited to the role, you are encouraged to apply. Working hours: Monday to Friday, typically 9 am to 5:30 pm (37.5-hour week). Candidates must be able to commute reliably or plan to relocate before starting the role. Key Responsibilities: Collaborating within a design team to provide technical design best practices alongside engineers, architects, and contractors for building projects. Taking responsibility for producing technical design documents, including drawings, calculations, specifications, and reports. Effectively liaising with clients, local authorities, and other members of the design team. Managing projects and overseeing financial control on a variety of assignments. Assisting in the preparation of bids and fee proposals. Mentoring junior staff. Developing relationships with both new and existing clients to grow the business. Desired Qualifications and Experience: Chartered Engineer (or Associate/Incorporated Engineer) status preferred, or a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience with progression towards professional qualifications. Proven ability to lead and manage small teams, delegate tasks, and supervise work, while acting as a mentor to junior team members to enhance their technical skills. Experience in liaising with clients, professionals, and other disciplines involved in project aspects. Proficient in designing with primary construction materials such as steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber, and evaluating the pros and cons of each material for specific projects. Experience conducting structural appraisals on buildings and producing written reports, including for basement impact assessments, listed building applications, and house purchases. Competence in using various methods of analysis, including traditional hand calculations and computer-based analysis using proprietary software, to solve structural engineering problems. Knowledge and application of Eurocodes, British Standards, and specifications for structural design projects. Familiarity with construction techniques, plant and machinery, temporary support systems, and construction programming, ideally with some on-site experience. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Good understanding of the CDM 2015 Regulations. Ability to assist during the construction phase, including site inspections.
