Lead Electronics Design Engineer

Salary: £60-£70k with growth opportunities

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Electronics Design Engineer with a strong background in both digital and analogue electronics, particularly in switch mode power supplies and circuits involving DACs, ADCs, logic circuits, and op-amps. You will lead the design, development, and testing of electronic solutions from concept through to product introduction, ensuring compliance with relevant standards. This is an exciting opportunity for a Lead Electronics Design Engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and managing projects in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop electronic solutions from requirements capture to product introduction, ensuring compliance with EMC, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Maintain and improve existing designs, focusing on Design for Manufacture and Design for Test principles.
  • Advise, lead, and mentor the hardware team, conducting design reviews and driving process improvements.
  • Manage hardware team projects, including coordination with external contractors, CEMs, and test houses.
  • Conduct compliance testing and rectification processes with external test facilities.
Main Tasks:
  • Design circuits, perform schematic capture, PCB layout, and conduct evaluations as required.
  • Ensure designs are validated through simulation or short-run prototypes before committing to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to produce relevant documentation, including timing diagrams, BoMs, and schematics.
  • Set up and maintain engineering component libraries for consistency across designs.
  • Assist with compliance testing and lead efforts to meet global and local regulations (CE, RoHS, REACH, etc.).
Required Qualifications & Experience:
  • Extensive experience in digital and analogue electronics, with a focus on switch mode power supplies and related circuits.
  • Proven experience in design documentation and compliance with UK & EU regulations.
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with a meticulous eye for detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to lead teams and provide project updates.
  • BEng/BSc in Electronic Engineering with experience of being a Lead Electronics Design Engineer.
  • Project management experience, including planning and managing development timescales.
Desirable Skills:
  • Proficiency in Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of Spice for circuit design and analysis.
  • Experience in C/C++/Python or Embedded C programming.
  • Familiarity with working in an ISO9001 quality system environment.
  • Leadership experience in setting objectives and conducting performance reviews.
