Job Title: Senior Test Support Engineer

Our leading automotive manufacturing client are looking for a skilled Senior Test Support Engineer to join their team. In this hands-on role, you’ll support day-to-day engineering operations and take charge of new equipment installations and facility upgrades. You’ll utilize a wide range of engineering expertise to ensure the reliable and precise testing of internal combustion engines, test rigs, and related components.
Key Responsibilities – Senior Test Support Engineer
Deliver engineered solutions to meet the company’s engine testing requirements within set timelines.
Support powertrain and component testing, particularly in the automotive sector.
Troubleshoot, investigate, and resolve issues with test equipment, and calibrate various transducers (pressure, temperature, torque, flow, humidity) for new and existing installations.
Program the dyno control and logging systems with automated routines, logging, alarms, and PID control.
Identify and address root causes of electrical, software, and mechanical issues with test rigs.
Plan and oversee one or more facility upgrade projects, managing costs and timelines; oversee internal resources and external subcontractors as required.
Identify, manage, and assess subcontractor services to enhance current equipment.
Improve departmental capabilities by maintaining records and developing and implementing procedures.
Provide regular progress and status updates to management.
Mentor and share expertise with junior team members.
Ensure health, safety, and environmental standards are met in all activities.
Support company compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 by following best practices and company policies.
Key Experience & Qualifications – Senior Test Support Engineer
Solid understanding of internal combustion engines and engine testing methods.
Proficient in specifying and setting up instrumentation systems, including temperature, pressure, vibration, and strain measurement, with a strong grasp of test bed control systems.
Skilled in programming control loops, PID controllers, and automated testing routines.
Experience planning and executing test facility upgrades, both small and large scale.
Proven ability to work with and manage subcontractors effectively.
Strong technical writing skills for creating specifications, procedures, and documentation.
Programming skills (C or Visual Basic preferred).
Knowledge of electronic and electrical circuit design.
Passion for engineering and problem-solving, with excellent time management skills for both individual and team tasks.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly.
