Subject to annual pay award.Full Time, Open ended.  Loughborough University is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to lead our dedicated team of engineers in the delivery of complex electrical projects. This role is critical in ensuring the university's electrical infrastructure is designed, maintained, and upgraded to the highest standards. The Principal Electrical Engineer will oversee both High Voltage (HV) and Low Voltage (LV) systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and efficiency in all operations. Here’s more about the role and what we’re looking for: This role will support the delivery of the University Estates Strategy, through delivery of projects creating new electrical infrastructure as well as improving and replacing the existing systems.  Team Leadership:Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.Manage team workload, priorities, and resource allocation to ensure the timely and successful completion of projects. Project Management:Oversee the planning, design, and delivery of electrical projects, including building infrastructure, HV and LV systems, and other related installations.Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external contractors to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems with other building services. Technical ExpertiseProvide technical guidance and oversight for all electrical engineering activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.Conduct thorough analysis and risk assessments for electrical systems, implementing solutions to mitigate potential issues.Lead the development and implementation of maintenance programs for HV and LV systems to ensure long-term reliability and safetyCompliance & SafetyEnsure all electrical engineering activities comply with statutory regulations, university policies, and health & safety standards.Lead initiatives to enhance the safety and efficiency of electrical systems, including the adoption of new technologies and methodologies.Stakeholder EngagementLiaise with academic and administrative departments to understand their electrical infrastructure needs and translate them into effective engineering solutions.Present technical reports, project updates, and recommendations to senior management and other stakeholders Continuous ImprovementPromote and implement continuous improvement practices within the team and across the university's electrical systems.Keep up to date with the latest developments in electrical engineering, ensuring Loughborough University remains at the forefront of technological advancements. Qualifications and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.Extensive experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems, including HV and LV infrastructure.Proven experience in leading and managing engineering teams.Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.In-depth knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and best practices.Previous experience working within a large organisation.Our Benefits* Generous annual leave allowance up to* 44 days (inclusive of Bank Holidays & University closure days)Competitive pension schemesA range of childcare support initiatives and benefits including childcare vouchers; on-site university nursery (with salary sacrifice scheme); and holiday play schemes.We offer a range of family friendly, inclusive employment policies.BUPA Cash Plan (100 scheme)Employee Assistance ProgrammeSeason ticker loan schemeOn campus parking with charging points for electric vehiclesFantastic range of sports facilities and preferential membership packages available If this role sound of interest, we’d love to hear from you. Informal enquiries should be directed to Rob Sparks via email at [email protected]. For more information refer to the Job Description and Person Specification. We are happy to consider any reasonable adjustments that candidates may need during the recruitment process. If there are any additional adjustments, you’d like to request please contact Gina Evans, [email protected].
