Job Title: Shift Lead Engineer (Critical Building Services) Location: Static critical building, London Salary: £56,000 + Benefits Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent Shift Pattern: Continental Shift Days & Nights (7 til 7) About my client: My client are a leading provider of Building Services and Facilities Management solutions, specialising in maintaining critical environments for commercial, industrial, and health care sectors. Their clients rely on them to ensure that their essential systems are operating at peak efficiency 24/7. The Role: As the Shift Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a team of multi-skilled engineers in maintaining and managing the day-to-day operation of critical systems in a highly regulated environment. This includes overseeing HVAC, electrical, high voltage, mechanical, and building management systems (BMS). You will act as the primary point of contact during your shift, ensuring that all equipment and systems function efficiently to minimise downtime and meet operational standards. Key Responsibilities: Lead and supervise the shift team, ensuring that planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance tasks are completed to a high standard. Distributing and assigning PPMs High voltage switching Building shutdowns Signing off PPMs and closing down jobs Ensure the smooth operation of all critical systems (e.g., UPS, generators, HVAC systems, chillers, pumps, and electrical distribution). Monitor and manage Building Management Systems (BMS) and Power Monitoring Systems (PMS), responding promptly to any alarms or issues. Carry out fault-finding and provide technical solutions to complex issues, ensuring swift resolutions to minimize disruptions to operations. Coordinate and oversee any third-party contractors on-site, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and building standards. Maintain accurate logs and records of all maintenance activities, equipment status, and incidents during the shift. Provide technical support and guidance to team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and knowledge sharing. Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations, standards, and health and safety procedures. Assist in training new engineers and supporting team development.Key Requirements: City & Guilds Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (or relevant field). Experience in critical building services, such as data centres, hospitals, or other 24/7 operational environments. Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, generators, UPS systems, and mechanical plant. Experience with BMS and PMS systems, with the ability to interpret and respond to alarms. High Voltage Authorised Person (Essential) Proven experience leading or supervising a team of engineers in a high-pressure, critical environment. Strong understanding of health and safety regulations and best practices. 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations (desirable for electrical bias roles). Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a rotating shift pattern, including nights and weekends.Randstad CPE values diversity and promotes equality.
