Job Overview:
Booth Welsh is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineering Manager to lead our Electrical Engineering Department. As a key member of our Engineering team, the ideal candidate will have extensive experience in the process industries, including hazardous environments (Ex), and will be proficient in relevant industry regulations such as B7671 & ATEX. While prior management experience is preferred, a strong technical background and leadership potential are essential.
This role will involve both technical leadership and day-to-day management of the electrical engineering team. You will act as the company's technical authority in electrical engineering, responsible for the successful delivery of projects, resource management, whilst maintaining high technical standards within the department.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Development:
Manage, mentor, and develop the electrical engineering team. Oversee daily activities to meet project deadlines and quality standards. Allocate resources effectively to meet project needs. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration.
Technical Authority:
Act as the technical authority for all electrical engineering scopes. Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices (e.g. BS7671 & ATEX). Provide expert guidance on electrical design, safety, and implementation, especially in hazardous & explosive environments. Review and approve designs to meet project, client, and regulatory requirements.
Project Delivery:
Collaborate with project managers, other disciplines, and clients for seamless delivery. Provide technical input during tendering for accurate and competitive bids. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the relevant technical standards.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement:
Liaise with clients to understand needs and provide technical solutions. Support business development and tendering through client meetings and proposals. Support client feedback and lessons learned to improve department performance.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
Honour’s Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or related discipline. Minimum of 10 years industrial experience. Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles and practices in the design and maintenance of electrical systems in process plants. Proficiency in relevant industry standards. Experience with HV & LV electrical systems, including control systems, power distribution, and MCCs within the process or manufacturing industries. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make sound technical decisions. Preferred Qualifications & Experience:
Chartered Engineer status or working towards it. Previous experience in a management or team lead role. Familiarity with software tools used for electrical design and analysis (e.g., AutoCAD, Trimble Amtech). Project delivery experience, including resource management, commercial acumen, and client engagement. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams. Personal Attributes:
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving and decision-making. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
