Lead Electronics Design Engineer
Location: Cambridge
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: circa £65k, with opportunities for growth
Join a pioneering company specializing in the design and manufacture of cutting-edge hardware and software solutions for global researchers in neuroscience, pharmacology, and engineering. We are searching for an experienced Lead Electronics Design Engineer skilled in both digital and analog electronics, particularly circuits involving DACs, ADCs, op-amps, programmable logic, and embedded processors. Key Responsibilities:
Lead design and development of electronic solutions from concept through to product introduction, ensuring compliance with EMC, environmental, and safety standards.
Maintain and improve existing designs with a focus on Design for Manufacture and Test principles.
Oversee hardware team projects, working with external contractors, CEMs, and test facilities to meet project requirements.
Conduct compliance testing and manage the rectification process with external testing partners.
Maintain and upgrade FPGA (VHDL) and embedded processor (C) firmware as required.
Main Tasks:
Design, evaluate, and upgrade products as needed, including simulations and prototyping for validation.
Investigate reported electronic or embedded issues from Sales, Software, and Production teams.
Collaborate across departments to create essential documentation, including timing diagrams, BoMs, and schematics.
Set up and manage engineering component libraries to ensure consistency.
Drive compliance efforts, working to meet CE, RoHS, and other global standards.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
Extensive experience in digital and analog electronics, especially embedded processors and programmable logic.
Strong understanding of design documentation and UK/EU regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication and project management skills, with experience leading teams.
BEng/BSc in Electronic Engineering and proven experience as a Lead Electronics Design Engineer.
Desirable Skills:
Knowledge of Spice for circuit analysis and design.
Experience in C/C++ or Embedded C programming.
Familiarity with ISO9001 quality systems.
Proven leadership abilities, including setting team objectives and conducting performance reviews.
