Staff Backend Engineer (Python)

We are excited to be working with a VC-backed AI-first HRTech scaleup looking to hire an exceptional Staff Backend Engineer into their UK business, to play a pivotal role in building their next generation benefits platform. Funded by high-profile backers, they continue to invest heavily in their teams in 2024 following their Series B fundraise in 2023, and see now as the perfect time to add more exceptional talent to their already-world-class engineering team. This hire could be based hybrid out of their London HQ or fully-remote anywhere in the UK - the choice is entirely yours. As Staff Backend Engineer you will: Play a critical role in shaping, architecting, and implementing their next generation benefits platform, leveraging personalisation, experimentation, and AI/ML methods Apply your expertise in Python and other backend languages to deliver world-class applications as a leader, contributor, and mentor on an agile, cross-functional team Act as the key bridge between data processing and the backend Contribute effectively across the tech stack (backend, data, ML) to routinely deliver user and business impact We want to hear from you if: You have the mindset and approach of a founding engineer. You love building impactful products from scratch and have done so for at least one early stage startup You have a history of thriving in the ambiguity and uncertainty of nascent projects, and relish the opportunity to shape the future You have 6 years of professional experience building and architecting customer-facing web applications with a combination of Python and other backend languages like Go, C++, Scala You have plenty of experience crunching data at scale, with expertise in data processing, data pipelines and data flows You have experience with Google Cloud (preferred) or AWS, plus Kubernetes and Kafka ideally You have experience with data engineering / ETL, machine learning, and AI methods You have first-hand knowledge what scale and quality look like in a larger technology company What do they offer?
