What this Job Entails:
The Optical Engineer III will help build and troubleshoot the optical network and ensure that we can guarantee the delivery of optical capacities.
Your Roles and Responsibilities:
- Deploy, configure, and support a large-scale production optical network that spans ULH terrestrial, regional metros and subsea networks, interconnecting data centers and Point of Presence (POP) sites across EMEA.
- Create and maintain Engineering Design Packages for subsea, metro, regional, and long-haul DWDM rings/systems. Order cross connections to connect to vendor dark fibers.
- Reviewing Acceptance Documents provided by vendors and subcontractors deploying equipment on our network.
- Work closely with Network Engineering, Logistics, equipment vendors, and fibre providers to ensure the seamless introduction of new optical technologies into the production network.
- Proactively contribute to documentation, automation and processes as they evolve.
- Coordinate with smart hands and optical equipment manufacturers during the rack and stack process.
- Work cross-functionally and cross-regionally with other optical and network operational support teams.
- Partner with and escalate to, various internal teams in pursuant of restoring service and limiting impact.
- Manage and escalate critical events while communicating clearly and concisely.
- Document and optimise operational processes and procedures.
- Contribute to creating monitors, alerts, dashboards, and metrics to drive continuous improvements.
- Identify areas for automation and create or participate in the solution with scripting or coding skills.
- Support deployment and move, add, and change teams.
- Partner with audit teams to ensure accurate inventory and documentation.
- Document and follow RMA processes and procedures for all relevant vendors.

Required Qualifications/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree (B.S/B.A) from college or university and 5 + years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge about building and testing optical systems
- Demonstrated hands-on experience deploying optical networks.
- Experience with optical network design, installation and maintenance for service providers or enterprise networks.
- Knowledge of optical theory, transport technologies and the operation of optical transport systems.
- Experience with field-based work on Subsea Deployments, POPs, carrier hotels, data centers and central office environments.
- Experience with optical test equipment and optical troubleshooting experience using C-OTDR, OTDR, OSA, BERT and optical power meters.
- Builds productive internal and external working relationships
- Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
